Goulburn Loop

During the Easter Break 2022, I was housesitting for my Brother in Goulburn. I took my Pentax K1-II and my new drone, a DJI Mavic Air 2. Two items that I have either never used, or only used less than a hand full of times. During this trip I travelled in and around the town, as well as making trips to the hills and lookouts around Thirlmere and Bundanoon.

The next few days consisted of Oallen Ford and Bungonia State Forrest before taking my new drone for its first true flight at a family property just outside of Yarra.

A quick trip down the Shoalhaven and past Oallen Ford to Nowra and Culburra. The weather was cold and misty, but the drive made a nice change from the sunlit plains of the Central West. Nothing too exciting happened, but you should never miss out on the simple scenes and joys that life offers.

The trip finished up with a trip to Pejar Dam (where the images from my last post came from) and around some of the villages around the area, including Taralga, Laggan and Crookwell. The dam was the second time I flew the drone, and the first time over water. I am glad this thing is as easy to fly and control as it is, and this opportunity was what convinced me that drones can be more than just a gimmick or a tool for “content creators”.

I had a great time on this trip and I learned a lot. Both the drone and the K1 perfprmed wonderfully and mad a nice change to the comfort zone of my Canon 5d III. The quality of the videos and images from the drone actually amazed me and has inspired me to get out and shoot more.
